Experience
David joined Grant Thornton in 2013 and is a Director within the Corporate Finance team. He has over 14 years experience working in audit, corporate finance, project finance and renewable energy financing. David has significant experience in project / structured finance and is responsible for managing the financial close process for projects with specific focus on renewable energy projects.
Sector Experience
In recent years David has advised on transactions within the Irish renewable energy sector in relation to raising both project finance debt and equity finance equating to over 250MW in installed capacity and over €350m in finance raised. He has also provided support in relation to a number of sell-side transactions involving operational wind farm projects, including the sale of a 54MW wind farm in County Fermanagh which was one of the largest infrastructural transactions on the island of Ireland in 2014.
In recent years, David advised on a number of sell-side transactions involving renewable energy projects comprising c. 110MW of installed capacity. He has a strong working knowledge of the regulatory system governing the renewable energy sector in Ireland and regularly advises client in relation to securing the relevant regulatory approvals Ireland including the Integrated Single Electricity Market (“I-SEM”) and Renewable Energy Support Scheme (“RESS”). David has been involved in several power purchase agreement (PPA) procurement processes on behalf of renewable energy developers and has a strong understanding of the Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM).
David also has considerable financial modelling experience which includes building financial models for project finance raises which have been subjected to lender due diligence. He has acted on due diligence assignments, most recently on behalf of Signode Industrial Group LLC in relation to two international acquisitions in the manufacturing & engineering sector.
In 2021, David worked on secondment with Bus Éireann where he assisted with the delivery of strategic projects for the Bus Éireann finance function.
