DUBLIN, January 19, 2026: Grant Thornton has announced Make-A-Wish Ireland as its new charity partner for the next two years. Established in 1992, Make-A-Wish Ireland grants wishes to children between the ages of three and 17 who are living with life-threatening illnesses, bringing hope, joy and precious memories to each ‘wish child’ and their family.
A wish provides children with respite from routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment, and nurtures a sense of belonging – fostering hope and leaving an indelible legacy of love in the lives of the special ‘wish children’ and communities that they touch. It is an opportunity for a child to do something that might otherwise be impossible. Children’s wishes can range from being a princess for a day to meeting their hero. Over the past 23 years the charity has granted more than 3,500 wishes, including 229 in 2025 alone.
Grant Thornton’s partnership with Make-A-Wish Ireland begins immediately, following a very successful partnership with Children in Hospital Ireland, which concluded in December 2025. Make-A-Wish Ireland stood out for its energy, professionalism and strong alignment to the firm’s values, following a rigorous selection process that saw 27 worthwhile charitable organisations considered.
Through the partnership, Make-A-Wish Ireland’s tireless work will be amplified and supported by Grant Thornton across the island of Ireland over the next two years. It will also give staff at the firm an opportunity to get involved in a variety of ways, both big and small, to support families and children facing some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
Speaking about the partnership launch, Steve Tennant, Managing Partner, Grant Thornton, said:
“We at Grant Thornton are very proud to support Make-A-Wish as our charity partner for the next two years. This partnership offers meaningful volunteering opportunities, engaging fundraising activities, and, most importantly, the chance to help grant life-changing wishes for children across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Grant Thornton’s Community programme, as part of our wider Sustainability strategy, is a source of great pride for us. This partnership strengthens our commitment even further, enabling our people to contribute in meaningful ways and ensuring we continue to create shared-value partnerships that benefit society.”
Speaking on the launch of the partnership, David Burns, Head of Fundraising at Make-A-Wish Ireland said:
“We are delighted to partner with Grant Thornton, their support will play a vital role in helping us reach more children with critical illnesses and grant wishes that bring hope, strength and joy at a time when it is needed most. The commitment shown by Grant Thornton, through both fundraising and volunteering, will have a lasting impact on the lives of wish children and their families, and we look forward to working closely together over the coming years.”
The announcement of the new partnership with Make-A-Wish Ireland marks another positive step forward in the firm’s sustainability journey. It follows news from December 2025 that Grant Thornton Ireland was selected by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment as one of Ireland’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions for 2025–2027. By collaborating with Make-A-Wish Ireland, the firm is strengthening its contribution to the SDG’s — particularly SDG 17, which emphasises the power of partnerships to drive meaningful social impact.
