Jarlath joined Grant Thornton in 2014 and is the head of Indirect Tax within Grant Thornton’s Tax team in Ireland. Prior to this he spent 16 years (7 as Partner) in the department of a Big Four firm.

Sector experience

He has experience in a broad range of Indirect taxes and specialises in . His particular specialisms include financial services, telecommunications, the not for profit sector and the treatment of international services. He has regularly represented businesses in negotiations with both the Irish and UK Tax authorities.

Jarlath has over 20 years’ experience advising clients in respect of due diligence work, merger and acquisition transactions and efficient supply chain management programmes. His portfolio includes Irish and overseas listed multinationals together with large and medium sized Irish companies He has advised clients with limited recovery on how best to manage risks and opportunities.

Businesses across Europe face unprecedented challenges in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic. Indebtedness is rising as businesses struggle to settle debts on time. Most VAT registered businesses are required to account for output VAT in the same tax period when they have issued an invoice to their customer, regardless of whether the invoice is paid. If the invoice remains unpaid, a bad debt arises which, in many European jurisdictions, may be subject to relief – VAT credited back to the business.
