Reasons why you should do an internship at Grant Thornton

I worked in Grant Thornton in the Audit & Assurance department for eight months as part of a university placement. From the outset, I got great client exposure, my own responsibilities and a chance to show my capabilities. My auditing experience ranged across different industries and clients from small entities to large multinational organisations. The large scope of audit work given was something I really enjoyed as it gave me a sense of what working in the department after college would actually be like.

The firm itself is very close knit. I found the collaborative nature of the firm offered me fantastic support throughout the eight months. There is a genuine willingness at all levels from Partner right down to intern to help and I found everyone very approachable despite the fast-paced nature of the department. The training provided is second to none with management taking you under their wing and providing feedback and help where needed. There was a great work life balance; just some of the highlights were finishing early during the summer on Fridays, having a summer barbecue, ice cream during work on sunny days and month end drinks.

Grant Thornton offers great insight into the different departments through the internship programme, with invaluable experiences and training. When I returned to take up my place on the grad programme I was able to adapt really quickly after my experience I had on placement. I would definitely recommend anyone considering an internship to apply.
