Focus on: Ireland Unlocking access to credit

More evidence that the global credit crunch is easing comes from the latest Grant Thornton International Business Report (IBR) survey of over 7,400 privately held businesses (PHBs) across 36 economies which reveals that businesses around the world are increasingly confident that access to credit will be easier in 2010. Our Focus on: Ireland accessing credit report looks at the opinions of Irish PHBs.

The key findings for Ireland are:

  1. 61 per cent of Irish businesses believe their lenders are supportive (globally 69 per cent).
  2. 35 per cent of businesses globally expect credit to be more accessible in 2010 (Ireland 20 per cent, EU 25 per cent, UK 44 per cent).
  3. 40 per cent of Irish businesses expect credit to be less accessible in 2010 (global 27 per cent, EU 34 per cent, UK 20 per cent). 39 per cent of Irish businesses expect no change.
  4. 64 per cent of businesses in Germany expect credit to be less accessible in 2010. Only eight per cent expect accessibility to increase.
