Experience
Michael joined Grant Thornton in 2001 and has advised on some of the firm’s largest transactions to date.

He specialises in advising on buying and selling companies, raising finance and company valuations. He advises on the development and implementation of strategies to enhance and realise shareholder value, including situations where the company is experiencing financial stress.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton he spent seven years working for an international private equity company where he was responsible for both investment and post-acquisition management involving investments in the UK, Sweden, Denmark and the US. He also participated in the acquisition and disposal of several medium sized companies and was heavily involved in the management buyout of Adare Printing Group plc.

Sector experience
With over fifteen years corporate finance experience Michael has led a wide range of transaction types and sizes in a broad variety of industries providing creative solutions for the clients. Michael has wide experience in dealing with banks and offering debt advisory services to clients. He has also completed several financial reviews for financial institutions.

Michael has led a number of mergers and acquisitions including

  • advising the vendors on €36m sale of Moyglare Limited;
  • advising the vendor on sale of Easy Access to Siteserv Plc;
  • advising the vendors on sale of Tekno Surgical to Sicon Limited;
  • advising the vendors of U Store It on sale to HSBC Private Equity;
  • advisor on the management buyout team of FA Wyatt Limited and Drammock Limited from Greencore plc.; and
  • advising the vendors on the €7.7m sale of Marketing People Limited to Newcourt Capital plc.

Michael’s advisory assignments include

  • advisor to Crosson Motor Group on its group restructuring;
  • advisor to medium sized company on strategic options and debt restructuring;
  • structuring and raising €100m debt facility for a major property development;
  • feasibility reviews and option papers for several financial institutions;
  • advisor to U Store It on its €30m expansion plan; and
  • valuation and business planning advice for medium sized distribution company.

Professional qualifications and memberships
Michael is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI). He has a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) from University College Galway.
