Grant Thornton joins forces with Trinity College to develop Educational Access Programme for Young Adults
TAP Foundation course for Higher Education-Young Adults is an academic and personal preparation course for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to undertake degree course studies for socio-economic reasons. The TAP foundation course equips students with the necessary skills (IT, study skills, 3rd level vocabulary as well as specialist subjects from the Sciences, Social Science or Arts) to participate in a third level course.
Successful candidates receive a Certificate from Trinity College and are eligible to compete for places on degree course in Trinity College and other third level institutions.
In conjunction with TAP co-ordinators, Grant Thornton has developed the Grant Thornton Career Development Programme which, together with a financial commitment over a four year period, aims to develop students’ practical skills in the areas of career development, transferable skills and study skills; and to provide them with strong role models from the professional world.
Grant Thornton is directly involved in supporting, educating and guiding the TAP students. The programme encompasses three key areas: workshops, mentoring and personal and career development. The workshops delivered in the Grant Thornton offices cover topics such as budgeting, presentation skills, CV building and interview skills.
Each student is also paired with a mentor in Grant Thornton who they engage with throughout the academic year to discuss a variety of topics around continuing education and career progression.
26 Grant Thornton staff from every level of the firm-from trainees to Partners - will assist the 25 TAP students participating in the 2009-2010 Career Development Programme, which runs for the duration of the academic year, from September until June.
This innovative programme offers the TAP students an opportunity to experience a taste of the corporate world first hand and reinforces Grant Thornton’s commitment to corporate social responsibility in the field of education.
